We spoke with SCS Group Chief Financial Officer Tony Pham about the financial thinking behind the investment, how the project remained aligned with the company’s long-term strategy, and why investing in people continues to be one of the business’s strongest competitive advantages.
Investing at the right time
Why was this the right time for SCS Group to invest in a new headquarters?
Tony: From my perspective, the timing reflected both our growth trajectory and the operational demands of the business. We carefully assessed market conditions, compared the long-term economics of leasing versus ownership, and considered the increasing costs of maintaining our previous facilities.
When we looked at the numbers alongside our long-term strategic goals, investing in a permanent headquarters made sense. It positions SCS Group for sustainable growth while giving us greater control over how our business operates into the future.
Creating long-term value
Beyond the financial investment, what long-term value will the new headquarters bring?
Tony: The value extends well beyond the building itself. A purpose-built headquarters allows us to operate more efficiently, improve collaboration across teams and create a better experience for both employees and clients.
It’s also an investment in attracting and retaining talented people. When you create an environment where people genuinely enjoy coming to work, you build stronger teams, better collaboration and ultimately better outcomes for clients.

Financial discipline and long-term planning
Large investments require careful planning. How did you ensure the project aligned with SCS Group’s long-term vision?
Tony: Financial discipline was critical throughout the project. Every decision was assessed through the lens of long-term value creation rather than short-term savings.
We relied on return-on-investment analysis, lifecycle costing and regular project reviews to ensure the renovation remained aligned with our strategic growth plans. That approach allowed us to maintain quality while making responsible financial decisions every step of the way.
Investing in people and performance
How do investments like this contribute to the overall success of the business?
Tony: There’s a direct connection between the environment people work in and the performance of the business.
Spaces that encourage collaboration, wellbeing and productivity create stronger employee engagement. From a financial perspective, that can lead to lower staff turnover, improved operational efficiency and better long-term business performance.
Those benefits aren’t always immediately visible on a balance sheet, but they have a significant impact over time.

What does the new headquarters represent for the future of SCS Group?
Tony: To me, it represents confidence.
It’s a commitment to our people, our clients and the future direction of the business. We’re investing in capability, culture and innovation because we believe those are the foundations of sustainable growth.
Personally, I’m most excited to see our teams working together in a space designed specifically to support collaboration, creativity and continued success.

Large investments require careful planning. How did you ensure the project aligned with SCS Group’s long-term vision?
The new headquarters reflects the evolution of SCS Group from a family-owned commercial cleaning business into one of Australia’s leading integrated property services providers.
Today, SCS Group supports more than 1,950 client sites nationwide with a workforce of over 3,300 service personnel, delivering approximately 6,600 cleaning hours every day while maintaining triple ISO certification across Quality, Safety and Environmental Management.
While the new headquarters marks an important milestone, it is ultimately a foundation for what comes next. It’s a workplace built to support continued growth, strengthen company culture and ensure SCS Group continues delivering exceptional outcomes for clients across Australia.
